sydney's crazy weather. 20 degree drop in a day

Saturday, November 7

he doesn't plan surprise birthday parties or lavish anniversary dinners
he doesn't express his love particularly strongly when we're in public places
he doesn't buy me perfect presents
he doesn't wax lyrical about me in songs, poems or blog posts
he doesn't know the difference between baby pink and neon pink
he doesn't know how to comfort me when i'm upset about my bad hair

but

he buys my dinner every evening regardless of the weather and he'll walk to the end of the street to get my favourite dish (and he'll always remember to get a dessert for later)
he gives me at least 8 hugs and 12 kisses everyday cos he read a journal article that said that's what a person needs for healthy emotional development (or something like that i wasn't really listening)
he watches gossip girl and grey's anatomy with me even though he doesn't like either show (this week he even watched gossip girl before i did to make sure there was nothing wrong with the download like last week)
he will notice the little bits of sparkle in my nail polish which makes me happy cos that's the reason why i buy the polish but after polishing it on i realise how insignificant and unobvious the sparkles are which means i wasted my money cos no one would notice.. but he did!

and that's why i love you even though everyone else thinks we're perpetually fighting cos you never walk with me or hold my hand when we're in uni. this love is a lot stronger than it looks.

kindy kids

we had a class today where they bring in kindergarten kids and we do things like check their eyes on a snellen chart, check their ears (Which was so much easier than i expected), listen to their heart and lungs, take their blood pressure, pulse and respiratory rate, measure their height, weight and head circumference and finally observe their gait.

i was really apprehensive cos i'm really bad with kids. but i got a sweet little girl who was shy at first and after i'd finished her eye test, we both just sat there staring at each other cos i didn't know what to say to her. finally i overheard someone else asking 6 questions i couldn't think of anything else to say and silence ensured again. i was the most thankful person in the world when the auroscope came my way and i could look in her ears.

when it came to the blood pressure bit she was hesitant since she said she'd done it before and it hurt a lot. but i promised her that i'd do it quickly. i took 2 quick measurements and i looked back up to her and said "we're done!" she beamed at me and replied "that didn't hurt at all!" i felt so proud of my procedural skills at that point. i don't think i'll feel doubtful about my ability from now (in my head there's always the uncertainty of "what if i don't hear a damn thing?!" although that's never happened).

unfortunately i don't think my kid liked me much since i was quite boring. and she didnt' wave bye to me although all the other kids were waving at their students. =( and during the debrief the doctor said "i noticed the kids bonded with you guys very well and were waving goodbye to you". fail. =/

bu o well i knew i was bad with kids.. i'm just glad i got through the whole thing without making the kid cry.

chicken noodle soup

i made chicken noodle soup today and i'm REALLY proud of it!
in the past everytime i've tried to make a dish with clear soup ti always turns out flavourless and tasteless.
but today... SUCCESS!!

and the BEST part is ...

i kinda made up the recipe on my own!!!

i looked up a recipe online which said to boil chicken breast and carrots with water for 2 hours. but i substituted the chicken breast meat for drumsticks cos i figured breast meat would become really dry if i boiled it for that long. and i added corn so that it would be sweet! and because i was nervous that the soup would be tasteless, i rubbed a really small amount of chicken stock on the chicken (like a quarter of a teaspoon). so because i'm so so proud of how easy and tasty the soup turned out... i'm going to provide my recipe!! =)

and i also LOVE that i cooked everything in just one pot. i HATE washing up so the less to wash the better.

Cheryl's EASY chicken noodle soup for 2

half a small white onion (chopped finely)

2 chicken drumsticks (rubbed with salt or powdered chicken stock)

instructions!!
1. heat olive oil in a pot over medium heat
2. add minced garlic and onions. Fry for 15 seconds until fragrant
3. add carrots. stir for a minute just to mix the ingredients
4. add 2-3 cups of water (enough water to cover ur ingredients)
5. add chicken drumsticks and corn.

watched F.R.I.E.N.D.S. while eating and coincidentally picked episode where joey was shooting commercial for chicken noodle soup! (season 5 episode 18. TOW Rachel Smokes)
